FAQ

I’ve put together some answers to the questions I’m often asked about my therapy services. I hope this helps you find what you need so you can focus on your well-being.

What type of counselling do you provide?

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, primarily using the Human Givens Therapy model. This approach focuses on meeting your emotional needs – like security, intimacy, and purpose – to help you achieve emotional balance. My role is to guide you in using your strengths, setting achievable goals, and improving as we go. I also incorporate techniques from CBT, NLP, hypnotherapy, and more, tailoring our sessions to best support you.

How many sessions should I expect to have?

It varies based on your needs. Some clients find four to six sessions sufficient, while others may work with me for up to a year, depending on their challenges and goals.

How much is a session?

Each session is £70, payable via bank transfer at least an hour before, or in cash on the day.

How long is a session?

Sessions last one hour.

What is online counselling?

I offer online counselling through Zoom, and sometimes WhatsApp, which makes up about 50% of my work. I’ve been providing online therapy since 2018 and am well-qualified in this area.

Do you offer meditation and mindfulness?

Yes, I use guided imagery and meditation techniques in my practice. I can also create a personalised meditation recording for £40.

How does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy is deeply relaxing, similar to the state between wakefulness and sleep. You remain in control throughout the session. I use it with clients who are interested or who I believe will benefit. It’s effective for many issues, including anxiety, phobias, and trauma, and I’m trained in the Rewind Technique for treating PTSD and cPTSD.

What training have you had?

I am fully qualified and have completed a DBS check. You can find a detailed list of my qualifications on the About Me page.

Are you insured?

Yes, I am insured with Towergate Insurance, Policy No. NISX69IN01.

How do you keep my records safe?

I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), No. ZA379360, ensuring your data is protected under GDPR. I keep all notes and emails secure and confidential.

Tell me a bit about you.

I’m 59, living with my husband of 26 years, Paul. We have two sons, aged 22 and 24, and two cats. Paul is Swedish, and we enjoy gardening, cooking, baking, long walks, and watching old comedies and crime dramas. I was diagnosed as autistic in 2021. I am also ADHD, dyspraxic, dyscalculic, and PDA. My journey into Psychotherapy began with writing a biography about my Great-Grandfather, a Titanic survivor who had PTSD and additional mental health and addiction issues.

Where does face-to-face counselling take place?

I see clients in a cosy conservatory at our bungalow, just a mile outside Frome town.

What is the difference between therapy, counselling, and psychotherapy?

These terms can be interchangeable. Generally, therapy is an umbrella term, while counselling is often considered short-term and psychotherapy long-term. However, the most important aspect is our therapeutic relationship and ensuring you get the support you need.

How can coaching help me?

Coaching can be a great fit if you’re looking to overcome emotional challenges or achieve specific goals. Whether you need help with anxiety, stress, or depression, or just want to gain more confidence and direction, I can support both your mental health and your life aspirations in a coaching setting.
