Who I Work With

I work with women who are 30 plus and are beginning to see signs of perimenopause. You might also be in ‘post’ menopause, which is when you have not had a period for twelve months. Some people call that ‘menopause’.

I welcome women for online work via Zoom or In Person at my Private Practice in Frome, Somerset.

Are you, or do you think you might be ADHD, Autistic or AuDHD? Diagnosed, self-diagnosed or curious – all areas I welcome enquiries about.

Here are some frequently asked questions about menopause, neurodivergence and mental health that I come across in many of my sessions:

Is it ADHD or Perimenopause?

You may or may not know you are ADHD. Perhaps you have gone through life ‘just managing’.  When perimenopause starts to show symptoms like erratic bleeding, mood swings and emotional dysregulation you might feel confused, anxious or angry.

You are not broken or in any way a failure. This space is where you will finally be listened to and understood.

Unravelling During Perimenopause

The beginning of perimenopause can make you feel completely overwhelmed. Your mental health might have deteriorated. I can support you with your emotions and how you are feeling, particularly when it comes to chronic stress, anxiety, trauma and depression.

Perimenopause and Burnout

“if I just try harder, I can push through!”  I experienced this myself. As a result of “trying harder”, I went into burnout and the inability to do just about anything.

Burnout is such an important aspect of the perimenopause experience. I know this from speaking to so many women and specifically, these six women on my Perimenopause podcast series – link.

I’ve been told by my GP that I am too young to be in perimenopause

Research is showing that many neurodivergent women (ADHD and/or autistic) begin perimenopause years before people who are not neurodivergent. This is why I welcome new clients from the age of thirty upwards. Forewarned is forearmed.

Sensory overwhelm during perimenopause

For some ADHD women and many autistic or AuDHD women, we become even more sensitive than we already are. Light becomes too bright, sound becomes too loud and our sense of taste and smell amplifies even more.  Our sensitivity to touch is magnified too – all types of touch, from clothing to people, temperature regulation, to the weather, and even how we keep ourselves clean.

I can help you find ways to regulate your sensory systems, including your nervous system, through guided imagery, grounding techniques and deep relaxation.

What do we talk about in therapy?

From speaking to many women, these are some of the challenges that are being spoken about as menopause approaches. Do you relate?

  • Caring for elderly parents
  • Giving birth in late thirties, then going into perimenopause. A hormone storm
  • Raising children
  • Having daughters begin their periods as you begin perimenopause
  • Working while navigating menopause
  • Coping with different life events and responsibilities
  • Co-occurring illnesses or conditions
  • Relationship challenges
  • Money worries
  • Hormone Therapy options

Whatever your specific situation is, I am here to support you.
